Our heart for helping people is evident in every aspect of our care, from our dedicated team to our serene environment. Located at 1016 Ic King Rd, Seymour, TN 37865, in the tranquil embrace of East Tennessee, we are more than just a treatment center; we are a community committed to fostering lasting recovery and renewed lives.

Who We Are: A Team Driven by Purpose and Expertise

The foundation of Summit at Knoxville is our team, a passionate group of professionals united by a shared commitment to patient well-being. We believe that true healing comes from a collaborative effort, combining medical expertise with profound empathy.

Our Expert Leadership

Dr. Brian Fuller, MD – Medical Director

Dr. Fuller leads our medical team with exceptional expertise and a deeply compassionate philosophy. Board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, he completed medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and residency at Vanderbilt University. Additionally, he completed the Nashville Advanced Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program, a two-year intensive program that allows him to better integrate traditional talk therapy into his psychiatric practice.

Dr. Fuller is profoundly passionate about helping patients who have survived trauma and/or are struggling with addiction. He firmly believes that “the life we all deserve is within reach, no matter the adversity that one must overcome.” His prescribing philosophy is guided by the principle of using “the lowest dose necessary of non-addictive medications to help aid the process of recovery,” viewing medications as tools rather than solutions.

Four people stand atop a hill at sunset, with arms raised in joy. They overlook a sea of clouds below, surrounded by dry grass and sparse trees. The sky is a warm mix of orange and yellow hues.
A woman with curly hair and a yellow sweater smiles warmly, reaching out to touch the shoulder of another person with short hair. A third person sits in the background, partially visible. The atmosphere seems supportive and friendly.

Michael Brennan, LPC-MHSP – Clinical Director

As our Clinical Director, Michael Brennan, LPC-MHSP, guides the therapeutic excellence of our programs. His leadership ensures that our therapeutic modalities are evidence-based, effectively delivered, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of our patients.

Together with our dedicated team of medical doctors, licensed therapists, and certified addiction counselors, we work tirelessly around the clock, available 24/7, to provide comprehensive, individualized care.

Our Philosophy of Care: Compassion, Integration, and Lasting Change

Our commitment to our patients is reflected in our core philosophy:

  • Compassionate Care: We approach every patient with dignity, respect, and a deep understanding of their unique struggles. We foster a non-judgmental environment where patients feel safe to be vulnerable and engage in the healing process.
  • Evidence-Based Treatment: Our programs are built upon scientifically proven therapies and medical practices, ensuring that our patients receive the most effective interventions for mental health conditions and substance use disorders.
  • Integrated Healing: We believe in treating the whole person – mind, body, and spirit. Our integrated model allows us to address co-occurring mental health and addiction issues simultaneously, providing comprehensive care under one roof.
  • Personalized Treatment Plans: There is no one-size-fits-all solution to recovery. Our multidisciplinary team collaborates to develop highly individualized treatment plans that evolve with each patient’s progress and unique needs.
  • Holistic Well-being: Beyond therapy, we emphasize physical health and wellness. Our programs incorporate nutritious meals prepared by an on-site chef and opportunities for physical activity like guided morning hikes and outdoor basketball, supporting overall vitality and resilience.

Our Home in East Tennessee: A Healing Environment

Our facility in Seymour, TN, just outside Knoxville, is designed to be a safe and conducive environment for deep healing:

  • Integrated Levels of Care: Both our medical detoxification and residential treatment services are housed in the same two-story building. This unique integrated model allows for seamless transitions between different levels of care, reducing anxiety and providing continuous support as patients progress through their recovery journey.
  • Supportive Amenities: Our 48-bed facility provides a comfortable and structured setting. Housing is separated by gender and level of care, with room assignments based on age range and gender. We offer a distraction-minimized environment, with TVs only in common areas to encourage focus on recovery and peer connection. We provide 24/7 monitoring by a medical team, including nurses and nurse practitioners.
  • Community Connection: We are deeply rooted in the East Tennessee community, understanding its unique challenges, including the opioid crisis (with fentanyl being a top driver in Knox County) and the high prevalence of mental illness. Our local presence allows us to offer targeted interventions and foster a sense of belonging among patients from the region. We aim to reduce the stigma surrounding addiction and mental health, fostering an environment where individuals feel safe to seek help.
  • Recreational Opportunities: Patients can engage in daily outdoor basketball and guided morning hikes, which promote physical activity and provide healthy outlets for stress reduction.
